Mr & Mrs Jack O'lantern

It was my turn to plan date night last night and I had been doing so for about two weeks. Back at home we always did the ward Trunk-or-Treat and called it good as far as Halloween. Actual Halloween night was a family night that we spent watching movies or playing games in the back of the house. We turned off the lights and it was just us. Well, AJ and I talked about it and decided that we didn't need any big Halloween plans and that spending the night together hidden away in our secret lair was just fine. However, it's been quite important to me to start establishing traditions in our little family and I want us to have Halloween traditions too.

So... on top of us starting a "BOO" chain I planned a Halloween date night. I made creepy crawly spiderweb nachos for dinner. They actually turned out really good. I made 'monster munchies'... a mix of popcorn, gummy worms, Reese's pieces, and candy corn. I saw something on the internet and had to try it: witches hats... made out of fudge stripped shortbread cookies and Hersey kisses. They were slightly cuter on the internet than in real life, but they still were cute.

After dinner, we carved jack-o-lanterns. AJ planned his all out, drew out a pattern, cut it out, tacked it on the pumpkin, traced it and then carved it. It turned out really good. I tried a few patterns and then just started carving... I didn't really know what it was gonna look like until it was done. Hahaha. I've only carved a pumpkin maybe a handful of times, so I guess it didn't turn out terribly, but AJ's was definitely better. Afterward, I made a caramel apple and AJ and I shared it. It was delicious!

After that, we just cuddled together and watched some tv, just chilling out. It was a fantastic night! And we started a few traditions that we can carry on through the years. And that made for a successful night.

We also had an incredible sunset last night. We didn't know it was so amazing until it was nearly set, but the colors were absolutely amazing.

Gorgeous!

Hooray! Now I can leave comments. Thanks. I love the jack-o-lanterns. Also, I'd love to hear the new traditions...if they're not too personal. We need some!
